The Rock

“Moreover, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea, all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:1-4

In the passages above Paul is telling us that Christ was the one who spoke to Moses. The God of the Old Testament is Jesus in the New Testament! Lets look at what else has been said about Jesus. “God replied to Moses, I Am Who I Am. Say to this to the people of Israel, I Am has sent me to you. God also said to moses, Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors- the God of Abraham, the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob-has sent me to you. This is my eternal name, my name to remember for all generations.” Exodus 3:14-1

Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.

This part in Matthew may be where there is some confusion. When the Lord spoke of the Rock He was talking about who He is, the verses in 1 Corinthians confirms it. Many people think Jesus was calling Peter the Rock. I don’t agree.
